From the Ground Up

Because it has been a while since our last From the Ground Up post, I wanted to begin taking you room by room from the beginning to the end and introduce you to some of the products and vendors we used along the way.  I hope you are as excited to see the process as we have been.
We will start with the Foyer.
Here you are looking at the front door on the far left, the powder bath beyond that and a blank wall that we saw as the perfect place to feature one of the patterns from The Jamie Beckwith Collection.
Looks like the trim work has been installed!
And here it is…We decided on the Sextant pattern in the Walnut species with a Smokey Quartz finish.
By now, the tile has also been installed that extends through the Foyer and into the Salon.  We used a 24 x 24 honed marble courtesy of Specialty Tile Products Inc.  Initially we had planned for a checkerboard pattern of two marbles that were slightly different in color, however because the two came from different quarries, they were not the same depth.  This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because the variation in the one color of stone ended up being just perfect.

This shows the original plan, but if you look closely you can see about a ¼” difference.

And here is the finished floor…
This is the custom stair case railing that features one of the home owners’ favorite details, a fleur de lis.
All custom iron work and railings were custom made by the local Nashville company Herndon & Merry.  Not only do these guys provide amazing custom iron work, they also have a fantastic showroom, Garden Park Antiques, full of unique architectural elements and custom furniture pieces created by the ironworkers.
And the final outcome was just stunning.  Talk about making a good first impression.
