Let’s face it, when you walk into someone’s dining room, you aren’t checking out their china pattern, silverware or placemats. And you aren’t going to have a conversation starter by looking at their sideboard, table or china cabinet. As beautiful as each of these pieces might be, they all play second fiddle to the ultimate “show stopper,” the chandelier. Personal style can shape this fixture from being very traditional to uber-contemporary, but its placement and purpose within this room remains the same. We thought it would be fun to single out a few fabulous chandelier styles, and who better to help us make the list than savvy Nashville designer, Jamie Beckwith of Beckwith Interiors!
BACKGROUND: Jamie Beckwith is a Nashville based designer who heads a full service interior design firm alongside her manufacturing facility for the Jamie Beckwith Collection. Her designs, in both spaces and product, focus on customization, a strong sense of geometry and the relationships between disparate objects.
These are a few of my favorite…Dining Room Chandeliers!
Lighting is such an important part of design and nowhere is that more apparent than the Dining Room light fixture. Visually centered in the room, highlighting a space that brings people together in feast and fun; the Dining room light fixture can tie a whole room’s design together. Some of my favorite light fixtures span from traditional to contemporary design elements.
In this first image, the space is very traditional. The space was designed to create a woodland rustic feel
The chairs are upholstered in a rich Crewel fabric of vines and flowers. The iron light fixture with leaves and branches has crystal buds that sparkle when illuminated. The leather captain’s seat and leather ceiling bring in rustic charm. The chandelier is delicate in feel and lightens the space. The light fixture can be found at Grahams Lighting in Franklin Tennessee.
This next dining room light fixture is a favorite of mine. It is large, dramatic and glamorous!! Perfect for a modern dining space. It was designed in Italy in the 1960’s by Vistosi. Gino Vistosi was a genius with glass blowing and these amazing light fixtures can price higher than $30,000 depending on the design and size. This piece can be found from Venfield in NYC, where I love to purchase lighting for clients.
This lovely image shows the Vistosi light used in a foyer of the Frist Home in Nashville. The designer is McAlpine, Booth and Ferrier. Spectacular!
This dining room is painted with a bright citron color on one wall. The table is clean lined and minimal. We wanted a light, modern fixture that was linear in scale and design. This fixture fit perfectly.
I had to include this amazing light fixture!!! This Rene Broissant pagoda chandelier has bended and polished steel, with two crowns of metal birds, and was created in collaboration with Fracois Xavier Lalanne. Check out the hand blown glass balls with bubbles and birdies! I can imagine this $60,000.00 light fixture in a glamorous Asian inspired dining room.
The dining space in this room is incredibly large so we needed a massive fixture to balance the space. This light fixture is a Swedish antique purchased at A. Tyner Antiquesin Atlanta Georgia. The fixture was large but airy and not heavy in the space. The finish is hand painted and peeling. It is made from wood.
I am currently working on my dining room and the main inspiration for the space was the wallpaper and light fixture. The fixture is a powdered coated white finish with over 28 lights. Inspired by mid-century design, this Sputnik light fixture is modern in design but works well with the bones of the house, which was built in 1920. I found the artist and designer on 1st Dibs, an online vintage shopping site. The “Supernova” Chandelier was designed and created by Lou Blass. I was able to commission the piece based on my dimensions, finish and hardware. It took about 8 weeks for my chandelier to be finished and shipped but it was definitely worth the wait and I am excited to complete the room with my dining table and chairs.
